Glenamaddy is a small town in the North East Region of County Galway. It is situated eighteen miles from Tuam to the west, and Roscommon to the east and fourteen miles from Castlerea to the north and Mountbellew to the south. The population of the Glenamaddy Rural District (2006 Census), which includes 15 District Electoral Divisions is 5,647 an increase of 1.8% on 2002 census of population (5,546). The gender breakdown is 2,908 male and 2,739 female. There are two financial institutions in Glenamaddy town – one bank and a Credit Union. There is a Garda Barracks which services the rural district. There is a Post Office, a Chemist, Veterinary Surgery, a Nursing Home, two Doctors, five Shops and seven Public Houses. There is a Health Centre, a Social Services Centre, a Day Care Centre and some Sheltered Accommodation for older people and a day care centre for adults with Learning Disabilities.
